Our months and weeks pass in tides of gentle, peaceable periods alternating with busy, dizzying phases. I call these the "ebb and flow," respectively. May was most definetely a flow and rather dizzying in nature. I had hoped we would enter an ebb before our summer travels, but alas, that was not God's plan for us this month.
So, I thought I would provide a bit of a little window into the daily goings on of the Home this month.
As mentioned in a previous post, our neighbor Mary passed away. Her two children have been spending about every other or every third day with us while their father goes to work. They are well mannered and friendly children so we are glad to be here for them. Last night, we were called upon to help out another dear friend in need. Mrs. H had to go to the emergency room (nothing too serious) and left her six children with us at around 7pm. We were grateful for her well packed cooler which provided a dinner for the whole gang of ten. After ice cream cones in the backyard, Grandmama washed everyone's faces while I made up extra beds. By about, 9:15, we had everyone fed and washed up, fresh diapers on the littlest ones and prayers said. The H family returned at 10:30pm to pick up the family, leaving one sleeping son with us. However, a few minutes later their car had broken down so the Professor and Papa headed out to the crisis spot and returned over an hour later exhausted.
Meanwhile, the Professor has been attending a conference on Sacred Music in the mornings and teaching the lessons in the afternoons this week. Firstborn started a new project in art class today and Sunshine will begin a new ballet class on Friday (still with our *wonderful* teacher, Ms. Kailani).
Amongst all of this bustle, there was a fun trip to the camera store where Papa and Alma Mater bought fantastic matching new cameras. There was a lovely hike through the Botanic Gardens. There have been long hours of playing cards with Grandmama and Papa. Sunday we had a wonderful family dinner at the Olive Garden. And, of course, there has been lots of great reading and great cooking as you may have noticed in the regularly updated sidebar.
This week I want to play around with hooking up the camera to the computer and then I hope to post some photos of the children's flourishing garden. Flowers, herbs, and vegetables are climbing and producing daily. I have already captured some beautiful close up photos of my Flaming Mexican Vine. Photos to come. I promise.
