Yesterday was the first Sunday of Advent. Last night we opened the Advent calendar; actually we opened three because we hadn't opened the first two days. Our Advent calendar is shaped like a house and is made of wood. The house has twenty five doors and we open one each day. Inside each door there is a little wooden cube with pictures and words on it.
My brother opened the first door and his cube had a picture of a crown and a scripture verse for us to look up. We looked up the verse and it was a story about King Solomon when he asked God for wisdom. On another side of the cube was written "Joseph." My brother had drawn a stable for us and he got to draw Joseph on the stable.
I opened the second door of the calendar. I had a picture of a raven which represented the story of Samuel who was fed by the ravens. Hahaha! On my cube was written, "Mary." So I got to draw Mary at the stable.
Lastly, my younger sister opened the third door. She had a picture of a tree. Her scripture was about Elias selecting a new king. The new king was David; many years later Jesus was born. David was Jesus' great-great-great-great-great (well, many times over) grandfather. My sister got to draw a lamb in the loft of the stable.
We also blessed our advent wreath and lit the first purple candle.
The End.
