forty days: our lenten altar

day twelve

In lent, we strip our family altar down; no cloth, no colorful pillar candles, no statues. But this year, we have a couple of new additions to our bare altar. In front of the altar, rather than a floral arrangement or other cheerful seasonally-inspired display, there is a Euphorbia. This is the plant that many believe was used to form the crown of thorns. It is a point of meditation.




A small glimpse of the altar (below) includes a little bunch of purple flowers the girls gathered in the yard today, our small (4"x6") Stations of the Cross images and a part of our new Stations of the Cross candle holders (mine are black) filled with 14 violet tealights to accompany our Stations.
