summer '08: local destinations project

Today we made it to three local destinations . Initially I had been planning to try out a less familiar farmer's market this morning, but my neighbor was interested in visiting our regular market. So off we went for a hot but scrumptious morning. The Prof sent me with a list and, save for green onions, I was able to procure it all: tomatoes, garlic, cucumbers, and red bell pepper. Any guesses? Yup, he is planning a gazpacho. I also snagged a couple of breads and a tantalizing melon...the incredible heat this summer has turned the local melons into something just short of a heaven.

After we parted ways with Neighbor and her children, it was off to a new fabric store I had recently discovered online. After many late nights pouring over the delicious fabrics designed by the likes of Amy Butler, Joel Dewberry and other great fabric artists, I finally found a local store that sells some of these fiber designs. They did not disappoint. At last, I got to see the colors in real life, feel the fabrics, and check the drape. Ahh! I managed to escape with just one new pattern and two fabrics, but we'll be back.

Lastly, it was off to a unique, old-fashioned candy store. The children each had five dollars from Grandmama and Papa burning holes in their pockets. And now they have sugar eating holes in their teeth. It was a fun time for all, though. If only Baby O would tolerate dairy, I can assure you I would have had the soda jerk make me on of those "four scoops of ice cream" hand made milk shakes. Someday.

Hurray for Local Pleasures!!

It sounds like lots of fun around your house this summer! I'm impressed you can do all this in the heat we just experienced in Texas! Beautiful photos, too!!
