week 38: the collision of exhaustion and nesting

pregnancy

We are in the final weeks-days?- of pregnancy. The days are long and hot due to a premature record setting heat wave. My feet and hands have suddenly swelled---the antidote offered on one pregnancy website was to avoid hot atmospheric temperatures and choose cool and normal instead. If only there were a choice. I also seem to have a touch of the virus that has been slowly moving through the household. Despite all of this, the urge to nest transcends all...okay, a lot.

My neighbor drove by last night and gave me a funny look. She walked back over with a plate of cupcakes (dear that she is!) and asked, rather incredulously, "Are you washing your car?!" I couldn't help it. I'd had a lengthy nap earlier in the day and the greyness of our white car was absolutely torturing me. Besides what better way to cool off than to walk barefoot through all that cool water on the driveway. Baby and I were awake much of the night---physically uncomfortable, mentally agitated--but I got a good amount of laundry accomplished. Good thing, too, because that nicely justified yet another lengthy morning nap.

Today I am taking it a little easier, though. Using ibuprofen to keep any possible fever at bay(when the girls had the virus, it featured a soaring fever), I do have a load to drop off at goodwill and a new rug to pick up from Crate & Barrel. Nesting allows one the freedom to give birth and I want my body and baby to feel completely liberated to accomplish this task as soon as possible.

You can bet I will let you know when the time comes...unless it all just happens as fast as I am hoping. We are getting excited, too!
