Outside my window...Last night we threw open the windows and doors to welcome in a most marked arrival of Autumn. It was quite cool and now, at noon, it is only 65*. The children are happily parading about the outdoors with sweaters on and enjoying every moment of the pleasant temperatures. Except one daughter who thinks it is too cold. Of course she thinks 75* is too warm so she has a very narrow window of temperature tolerance.
I am thinking for this family to work diligently on a new habit in October:
Tidy as you go.
Ah, yes, we'll start that on Friday. Can hardly wait.I am thankful ...for changes in seasons. It invigorates and gives such a new perspective.
From the learning rooms...we are enjoying our subjects so very much this year. I am especially grateful to have rotating partners assigned for Little O during the school day and he loves it, too.
From the kitchen...This week we have lots of liturgical calendar highlights to mark. There will be devil's food cake and deviled eggs for Michaelmas, to be sure. Plus to celebrate the cooler temperatures, I am thinking we need an apple cake or apple pie or baked apples or homemade apple-peach sauce, pumpkin yogurt, or cinnamon toast. Who am I kidding? I want all of that!
I am wearing...denim (maternity) skirt and striped blouse. Barefoot. I've been doing a lot of reading about barefoot goodness as of late and am trying to keep my shoes off more often than not. It does encourage me to sweep and vacuum the floors more often...yikes!
I am creating...mental lists for things to do to get ready for the holiday season.
I am going...The Prof has been so very busy preparing for upcoming performances that I haven't been going out a whole lot. But today I'll take a couple of girls to their Musical Theater class and slip into the grocery store while they are occupied.
I am reading...Eight Cousins by Louisa May Alcott to the girls on the days that Firstborn is of practicing the organ AND Shaking the Nickel Bush by Ralph Moody to the whole clan
I am hoping...to get the house significantly more organized before some upcoming schedule rattlers.
I am hearing...just the hum of the daytime. Children chattering and bantering, baby cooing, lunch dishes clattering.
Around the house I am dreaming of an orange kitchen, just narrowing down the right hue. I have very little wall space in my kitchen, so I can get away with a splash of orange. Or, at least, I really hope that is true.
One of my favorite things...open windows in autumn.
A few plans for the rest of the week: More thurifer training for Firstborn, musical theater for the girls, autumn shopping, paint sampling in the kitchen, baking (see notes above) and The Prof's St. Francis of Assisi concert--he's been preparing for this for quite some time and it should be a real treat.
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
On her way to being a reader and a writer! Such a thrilling journey.
